Markup Standards: XHTML 2 vs. HTML 5

From the little I could gather from the two articles on the 235 Assignments page and also from my own research, I find that there is a bit of a debate over which language to use for web design.

Until now, I thought HTML was dead and that XHTML was the new standard. It appears that both languages are in wide use and offer new, updated features.

XHTML 2.0:

This language is more strict than regular HTML, but being strict does have advantages.

By being strict, browsers are ablt to more easily authorize pages and understand their language. If there was room for sloppy code and illogical markup, then browsers would have to pick up the slack and try to solve errors.

There are a couple new features in XHTML 2.0; they are:

HTML 5:

This is the core language of web design and version 5 sounds like it's going to be good.

Not only is there new features, but Apple Co. encourages the developement of it - and I'm down with anything Apple tips their hat too.

HTML 5 is pretty much and update. The paln is to drop some outdated code and add some new functions. Things like 'font' are being dropped and left entirely up to CSS. Here are some of the new features:

I am personally excited about the new HTML 5. I feel that it is headed more toward web apps, and as many believe, this is where the web is going.
